Mircea Cantor

Mircea Cantor (1977–) is a Romanian-born artist who lives and works “on Earth,” as he likes to say. His films, installations, and sculptures draw their inspiration from the real, viewed from a simultaneously poetic and critical perspective. His work has been shown throughout the world. He recently did the set design for Micul Prinț (The Little Prince), at the Comedy Theatre (Bucharest, 2016), took part in Historicode: Scarcity and Supply, at the Nanjing International Art Festival (2017), and had been shown in the following exhibitions: La partie invisible de l’infini, Centre Georges-Pompidou (Paris, 2016); Give More Sky to the Flags, Fondation Francès (Senlis, 2016); and Anthroposynaptic, Unlimited Art Basel (2015). In 2011, he was awarded the Marcel Duchamp Prize. His works can be found in numerous collections, including those of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the Walker Art Center, the Rennie Collection in Vancouver, and the Madrid Reina Sofia Museum. He is represented by the Dvir Gallery (Tel Aviv, Brussels), the VNH Gallery (Paris) and the Magazzino d’Arte Moderna (Rome).
