Pierre Dorion

Primarily narrative and characterized by cohabitation of multiple genres and motifs, Pierre Dorion’s painted works revolve around questions asked of painterly practice by the photographic image. Most often taking inspiration from photos whereby he captures situations found in the course of his wanderings, or stimulated by anonymous instantaneous images, Dorion maps out curious compositions that constantly tumble from abstraction into representation. Over the past 35 years, his works have been shown in many individual exhibitions, and he has also taken part in group shows including Aurora Borealis, organized by the Centre international d’art contemporain de Montréal (CIAC) in 1985. A survey show, prepared by the Université de Sherbrooke art gallery, toured several museum institutions across Canada in 2003. He was the subject of a 2010 exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, while the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal mounted a career retrospective in 2012. [Source : VOX, 2019]
