Ron Terada
Ron Terada lives and works in Vancouver.
He received a Fine Arts diploma from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, where he also held a sessional faculty position for a decade. Working in various media—including painting, photography, video, sound, books, and graphic design—he calls attention to existing cultural forms and their operation as signs, often drawing from past art historical figures and popular culture to reflect on familiar narratives, aspiration and failure. Over the past 15 years, Terada has exhibited in numerous group shows in Canda, United States and Europe, notably at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit, the Store in London, the Kadist Art Foundation in Paris, the Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen – MuHKA in Antwerp, Belgium, the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco, etc. Recent solo exhibitions include Being There at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2012), Stay Away From Lonely Places at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, England (2006), and You Have Left the American Sector at the Art Gallery of Windsor, Ontario (2005). Nominated for a Sobey Art Award in 2007, he was a recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts’ Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award in 2006 and the VIVA Award, Jack and Doris Shadbolt Foundation in 2004. Ron Terada is represented by Catriona Jeffries Gallery in Vancouver.
