Walter Benjamin

Walter Benjamin was an important philosopher and art theoretician best known for his work Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction (1935). Many years after his tragic death in 1940, he reappeared in public with the lecture Mondrian ’63 -’96, organized in 1986 by the Marxist Center in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The following year, the same lecture was filmed in English and then broadcasted on television in Belgrade, Serbia. Since then, he published several articles on museums and art history and also gave a few interviews. In September 2011, Benjamin appeared again in public with the lecture The Unmaking of Art, held in Chinese at the Times Museum in Guangzhou, China. The same lecture, in English however, was repeated in December at the Arnolfini in Bristol, England. In the last few years, Walter Benjamin became closely associated with the Museum of American Art in Berlin.
