Internationally recognized for his computer-generated video projections, Charles Sandison was born in England, and now lives and works in Tampere, Finland. He creates immersive installations from data, placing the viewer at the heart of a universe of moving words, signs, and characters.

His site-specific installations and projections have been widely showcased across Europe, Australia, Asia, and the United States, but it was his participation in the Venice Biennale in 2001 that brought Sandison broader recognition. His work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions including the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing, 2023), Peabody Essex Museum (Salem, Massachusetts, 2020), Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma (Helsinki, 2019), and Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2018). His works are held in the collections of international museums, including the Denver Art Museum (Colorado), Kunstmuseum Bonn (Germany), Mudam (Luxembourg), Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac (Paris), Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid). In 2010, Charles Sandison received the prestigious Ars Fennica (the highest artistic award in Finland) for the installation Language as a Mirror of the World.
