Claude-Philippe Benoit

Claude-Philippe Benoit lives and works in Montreal. In the 1980s, he gained recognition for his series of photographs on cinema and as co-founder of artist-run centers Axenéo7 and Daïmôn, in Gatineau. He then began to research places of power, which led to a photographic series entitled Les lieux maîtres. His most recent series, Couleur romaine, is based on shots taken in Italy. Parallel to his photography, he also produces abstract, expressionist paintings.
His work can be found in numerous public and private collections. His work has been shown at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Presentation House Gallery in Vancouver, The Power Plant Gallery and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. Major events have included Les cents jours d'art contemporain de Montréal, La Biennale internationale de l'image de Nancy, Le printemps de Cahors and Encontros da Imagem (Braga). His work has also been shown at the Barbican Art Gallery (London), the Convent des Cordeliers (Paris), the Galerie Neue Meister (Dresden) and the Pinakothek der Moderne (Munich). [Source: VOX, 2025]
