David Maljković

A major artist on the contemporary European scene, David Maljković (born in 1973, lives and works in Zagreb) is known for his installations, sculptures, drawings, videos and photomontages, which draw on the former Yugoslavia’s rich modernist legacy. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, he took part in several artist’s residency programs, including at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. Maljković’s work has been widely shown in North America and Europe in several solo and group exhibitions. These have included the 56th Venice Biennale; the Nova Gallery, Zagreb; the Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv (2015); the Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Kunstmuseum St. Gallen (2014); the CAC – Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius (2013); the Wiener Secession, Vienna; the Sculpture Center, New York (2011); the Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana (2010); the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (2009); the Kunstverein Nürnberg, Nuremberg (2008); the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; the MoMA PS1, New York (2007); and the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (2005). He is a recipient of the International Contemporary Art Prize Diputació de Castelló, Spain (2010).
