Raymond Boisjoly

Raymond Boisjoly is an Indigenous artist of Haida and Québécois descent based in Vancouver. Boisjoly’s practice operates as active speculation, engaging issues of Indigeneity, language as cultural practice, and the experiential aspects of materiality. His process is situated in proximity to photography, and concerns the nature of technology and its transmission as a means of indexing and understanding cultural transformation.

In the last three years, Boisjoly’s work has been widely shown in prestigious institutions including the Vancouver Art Gallery (2009, 2012), The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery (Toronto, 2012), and Presentation House (Vancouver, 2012). This past year alone, he has presented solo exhibitions at Platform Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts (Winnipeg), Urban Shaman (Winnipeg), and Carleton University Art Gallery (Ottawa), and his work was included in Unsettled Landscapes at SITE Santa Fe, L’avenir (looking forward) at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal for La Biennale de Montréal, Sympathetic Magic at Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon), The Militant Image at Camera Austria (Graz), and Moucharabieh at Triangle France (Marseille).
