Nguyen Trinh Thi (Nguyễn Trinh Thi) is a Hanoi-based filmmaker and artist. Traversing boundaries between film and video art, installation and performance, her practice currently explores the power of sound and listening, and the multiple relations between image, sound, and space, with ongoing interests in history, memory, representation, ecology, and the unknown. Her diverse practice has consistently investigated the role of memory in the necessary unveiling of hidden, displaced or misinterpreted histories; and examined the position of artists in the Vietnamese society.

Nguyen’s works have been shown at international festivals and exhibitions including the documenta (2022), Artes Mundi (2023), Lyon Biennale (2015), the Asia Pacific Triennale of Contemporary Art (2018), Sydney Biennale (2018), the Mori Art Museum (2024), and Fukuoka Asian Art Triennial (2014). Since 2009, Nguyen is the founder and director of DOCLAB, an independent center for documentary film and the moving image art in Hanoi (Hà Nội). [Source: VOX, 2025]
