Eli Cortiñas

Eli Cortiñas is a visual artist born in Gran Canaria who lives and works in Berlin. She challenges visual memory by analyzing preexisting film footage from advertising, film, and pop culture then reworking and recontextualizing it through slight alterations or juxtaposition with her own recordings. Her works question established narratives and forms of representation through the possibilities of editing.
Since 2022, she has been Professor of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. Her works have been presented internationally, including at Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2026), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin, 2025), Fotografiska (Berlin, 2024), Kunstverein Braunschweig (2022), KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art (Berlin, 2021), Vilnius Contemporary Art Centre (2019), SCHIRN Kunsthalle (Frankfurt, 2017), and Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2011). In 2014, she was a fellow of the Villa Massimo in Rome. [Source: n.b.k., VOX, 2026]
