Frédéric Lavoie

Frédéric Lavoie (1976–) is a Canadian artist who lives and works in Montréal. Active since 2003, he draws on archival documents for his work, gathering together documentary and fictional elements that he uses to produce his stories, group portraits, and thematic analyses. His work has appeared in numerous solo exhibitions, such as Brasser de l’air, ENAC (Toulouse, 2016); Life on Mars?, Place des Arts (Montréal, 2016); and The End of the Beginning, McCord Museum (Montréal, 2015–16), as part of the museum’s artist-in-residence program. His most recent group exhibitions include the public art piece Aires libres (Montréal, 2015); La chaleur de l’usure, De Markten (Brussels, 2014); and Le Musée fait mouche, Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides (Saint-Jérôme, 2014). His works have appeared in several contemporary art fairs and festivals, such as the Casablanca International Festival of Video Art (2014), Nuit blanche à Montréal (2013), and the Mediterranean Contemporary and Abstract Art Fair (Nimes, 2012).
