Janis Rafa (b.1984, Greece) lives and works between Amsterdam and Athens. Her body of work combines film, video installation, sculpture, installations, text and drawing, in which the non-human, non-logocentric agency is recognized in order to reveal political and ethical dimensions, as another kind of archaeology. Dead and living, human and non-human beings coexist in an accord of dream and sensuality.

In 2025, Rafa will present a new body of work as part of her solo exhibition at EMΣT | The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens. Her work has been exhibited in various venues, amongst them M HKA (Antwerp, 2024), EYE Filmmuseum (Amsterdam, 2016/2021/2023), the 59th Venice Biennale (2022), MAXXI (Rome, 2020/2022), Fundació Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 2021), Goethe-Institut Athens (2021), Centraal Museum (Utrecht, 2019) and State of Concept Athens (2020). Her recent work has been supported by EMΣT, EYE, ART for the World, Fondazione In Between Art Film, the Mondriaan Fund, the Netherlands Film Fund and the Greek Film Centre. She was a fellow at ARTWORKS and Onassis AiR (Athens, 2020 and 2024). [Source: VOX, 2024]
