Special screening

VOX invites you to a special screening of Kala azar (2020), the first feature film by artist Janis Rafa. Presented for the first time in Canada, the film will be followed by an informal exchange between viewers.

The exhibition Janis Rafa. Landscape Depressions will be exceptionally open to the public until 7 p.m. on the night of the event.

Synopsis

In a desolate, perhaps post-apocalyptic landscape, people and their dogs, cats, and fish coexist harmoniously. A young couple works for a crematorium, paying house calls to people who have lost their pets. As they give animals respectful send-offs, their own relationship fractures.

Kala azar was produced by SNG Film, in co-production with Heretic. With the support of the Nederlands Filmfonds, Mondriaan Fonds, De Verbeelding, Greek Film Center, ERT S.A., AFK, Amsterdam Tuschinskifonds and Feature Expanded.
