Babette Mangolte
Babette Mangolte (American, born in France) is an internationally known experimental filmmaker and photographer who has lived in New York City since 1970. Among her most recent films, S even Easy Pieces by Marina Abramovic premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2007. She has made two films of Yvonne Rainer choreographies, AG Indexical in 2007 and RoS Indexical in 2008, as well as Roof Piece on the High Line (shot in 2011 and edited in 2012), depicting a choreography by Trisha Brown. Her most recent film, Edward Krasinski’s Studio, was shot in Warsaw in November 2011 and edited in 2012. Recent notable installations include Presence (Berlin Biennale, 2008), Rushes (Cologne, 2009) and How to Look… (Whitney Biennial, 2010). She is interested in creating architectural spaces that suggest specific viewer interactions with the photos and films presented in the installation. Mangolte is known for her photo archives covering experimental theatre, dance and performance from the 1970s and 1980s.
